When a resource is created, it is, by default, set up to be available for translation across all target languages associated with your project. However, you can exclude specific target languages from your resource if you wish.

๐Ÿ“ Note:

  • This is currently an option for file-based projects.

  • Wordcount per project on the subscription page returns the total words based on the definition provided here (both active and ignored languages are taken into consideration for word calculation).

โš ๏ธ Warning:

  • Excluding a language from a resource will permanently delete all the translations of the selected language.

  • The Translation Memory entries associated with the deleted translations will also be deleted from your project's Translation Memory for the language you've chosen to ignore. A Translation Memory suggestion will be retained only if the particular translation is utilized in other resources where the same language is active.

How to exclude languages

To exclude a language from a resource:

  1. Navigate to your project's Resources page.

  2. Choose the specific resource from the list.

  3. Click on the three-dot icon and select "Settings" to access the resource settings.

Within the displayed dialog, check the box "Exclude languages from being translated." Next, select the languages you want to exclude from the translation process. Finally, save your chosen settings by clicking the "Save settings" button.

๐Ÿ“ Note: Languages linked to orders or tasks cannot be deleted.

This is how inactive and active languages appear on the detailed resource page (inactive languages are displayed in a grayed-out state).

The specific resource will be available for translation, management, and downloading exclusively in the languages it has been enabled for. Languages that are excluded from a resource cannot be accessed through the Editor and do not contribute to your total hosted word count.

Active vs. Inactive languages

Editor

Languages deactivated for a resource are restricted from access in the Editor.

Statistics & Reports

Statistics and reports refer only to active languages. Excluding a language means the resource won't be available for translation for this language. Exporting reports for that language won't be an option, and the percentages/statistics won't account for it either.

Strings

You can search for strings exclusively for active languages on the Editor Strings page.

Nonetheless, on the TM Strings page, any previously saved TM entries in that specific resource-language combination will remain accessible.

Orders & Tasks

Languages that have been disabled for a resource cannot be selected for ordering translations or when creating a task.

Additionally, languages that are included in an active translation order cannot be disabled for a resource until the order for the resource is delivered. Similarly, languages that are part of an active task cannot be disabled for a resource until the task is complete.
