Overview

Source content can have the same problems you'd normally catch in translation: unclear wording, typos, or missing context. Left unchecked, those issues get translated into every target language, and they take longer to fix once translation is already underway.
Source string review lets your team mark which source strings have been checked. You can pause and resume the work, split it across reviewers, and track how much of the source is approved so far.
Source review and translation review are independent, so translation isn't blocked automatically while source strings are unreviewed. If you want translators to work only on reviewed source, use the source-status filter in the Editor.
What this feature doesn't include
There's no separate proofread step for source strings, review is a single step.
Unreviewed source strings aren't locked, and TM, AI, and MT fill-up aren't held back until the source is reviewed.
Spell checks and translation-style checks don't apply to source strings.
Translation Memory is unaffected: translating a string creates a TM entry regardless of the source's review status.

How to review a source string
Open the project and enter the Editor.
Select the source language.
Select a string in the list.
Click Review.
Bulk reviewing source strings
Open the Editor in the source language as described above.
Use the checkboxes in the string list to select the strings you want to review (use the checkbox next to the search box to select all).
In the bulk actions panel, select Mark as Reviewed and then apply the change.
Unreviewing a source string
Unreviewing returns the source string to an unreviewed state. The process is exactly the same as reviewing the string, but you select Unreview(d) instead of Review(ed).
Default review status
New and existing source strings start out unreviewed, whether they were added via file upload, Integration, API, CLI, or created directly in the Editor. An Organization Administrator or Project Maintainer has to mark them as reviewed.
Editing source text and review status
Editing a source string doesn't always reset its review status. Here's how the two interact:
If you edit anĀ unreviewedĀ string, it stays unreviewed. Click Review once it's ready.
If you edit aĀ reviewedĀ string, it stays reviewed.
Save & Keep Translations and Save Changes still control what happens to existing translations when source text changes. Reviewing or unreviewing a source string never deletes, keeps, or otherwise changes its translations, and it doesn't affect a translation's reviewed or proofread status.
Editing source strings in the Editor
If the resource format supports online source edits, you can modify the source text directly in the Editor and then mark it as reviewed. See Edit Source Strings Online for more information.
If the resource format doesn't support online source edits, you can still mark source strings as reviewed. You will just not have the option to edit the text. If the source text itself needs to change:
If you have the appropriate permissions, download the resource, edit it, and re-upload it
If not, leave a comment so someone else can update the file.
Once the updated source is back in Transifex, mark the string as reviewed again if the text changed.
Filters
You can filter strings by reviewed status in either the source or target language.
Source language: Go to Editor activity ā Reviewed ā Yes / No to see which source strings are reviewed.
Target language: Go to Status ā Source status ā Reviewed ā Yes / No to see translations of source strings that have already been reviewed.
History
Every review or unreview action is logged in the string's History tab.
Editing source text adds a separate Source Edited event (for example, "Source Edited by [name], a few seconds ago via Editor"). Editing an already-reviewed string doesn't create a new review event.
Progress and stats
Editor: While viewing the source language, the language stats show how many strings are reviewed and unreviewed.
Languages page: The source language shows a % reviewed figure.
Updating a resource
When you update your source content, the reviewed status of source strings depends on the file format and, for key-based formats, the saving options selected when pushing the file.
Key-based formats
When updating the source file, you will see these three options:

By default, the following behavior applies when you push a file without selecting any saving options, or when you select Keep existing translations or Delete source strings created in the Editor if they do not exist in the file:
Source strings that are unchanged between Transifex and the incoming file keep their reviewed status.
Source strings that are modified by the incoming file become unreviewed and need to be reviewed again.
The exception is when you select Replace edited source strings. With this option, the resource is overwritten. Previously reviewed source strings are removed, and strings included in the uploaded file are treated as newly created strings. As a result, they will be unreviewed, even if their source text has not changed.
Non-key-based formats
Push saving options are not available for non-key-based formats. The default behavior applies:
Source strings that are unchanged between Transifex and the incoming file keep their reviewed status.
Source strings that are modified by the incoming file become unreviewed and need to be reviewed again.
