đ Note: This feature is available on the Growth plan and up.
Source content can have the same kinds of issues you later see in translations, like unclear wording, typos, or missing context. Those issues spread across languages and take longer to fix once translation has started.
Source string review lets you mark which source strings have been checked. You can pause and resume the work, split it across the team, and see how much of the source is already approved.
With this feature, translation is not blocked automatically. Source review and translation review are independent. If translators should only work on reviewed source, they can use the source-status filter.
What does this feature include?
Mark a source string as reviewed or unreviewed in the Transifex Web Editor.
Review strings one by one or in bulk. Bulk review and unreview are available in the source language only.
Review source strings in all project types: Transifex Live, File-based, and Native.
Review strings while viewing a single resource or all resources.
See review and unreview activity in the string History tab.
Filter reviewed vs unreviewed source strings in the source language and in target languages.
See reviewed and unreviewed counts in the editor when you are in the source language.
See % reviewed for the source language on the Languages page.
Permissions
Only Organization Administrators and Project Maintainers can review or unreview source strings.
What does this feature not include?
There is no proofread step for source strings.
This feature does not lock unreviewed source strings or hold off TM, AI, or MT fill-up until the source is reviewed.
Spell checks and translation-style checks are not applied to source strings.
Translation Memory is not affected. If a string is translated, a TM entry is created whether or not the source is reviewed.
How to review a source string
Open the project and enter the Editor.
Select the source language.
Select a string in the list.
Click Review.
Reviewing multiple source strings at a time
Open the Editor in the source language.
Use the checkboxes in the string list to select the strings you want to review. To select all strings in the list, use the checkbox next to the search box.
In the bulk actions panel, select Mark as Reviewed and then apply the change.
Unreviewing a source string
Unreviewing returns the source string to an unreviewed state so it can be checked again.
One string
In the source language, select the reviewed string.
Click Unreview.
Several strings
In the source language, select the strings with the checkboxes.
In the bulk actions panel, click Unreview.
Default review status
Existing and new source strings are initially unreviewed until an Organization Administrator or Project Maintainer marks them as reviewed. That includes strings added by file upload, sync, API, CLI, or created in the editor.
Formats that cannot be edited online
You can still mark source strings as reviewed when the resource format does not support online source edits.
In the source-language editor you will see Review and Unreview only. If the source text needs to change:
Download the resource, edit it, and re-upload it, or
Leave a comment so someone else can update the file.
After the updated source is in Transifex, mark the string as reviewed again if the text changed.
Formats that support online edits
You can fix the source in the editor and then mark it as reviewed. See Edit Source Strings Online:
What happens when you edit source text
If the source string is unreviewed and you save an edit, it stays unreviewed. Click Review when the text is ready.
If the source string is already reviewed and you save an edit, it stays reviewed.
Save & Keep Translations and Save Changes still control what happens to existing translations when you change source text. Reviewing or unreviewing source does not delete, keep, or change translations, and it does not change translation reviewed or proofread status.
Filters
You can filter your strings by reviewed source string from the source language or in the translation language:
Source language
To display the source strings that are reviewed, simply go to Editor activity â Reviewed â Yes / No
Target language
In a target language, to display the translations of already reviewed source strings, go to Status â Source status â Reviewed â Yes / No
â
History
When you review or unreview a source string, that action is recorded in the History tab.
When you edit source text, History shows a Source Edited event (for example, Source Edited by [name], a few seconds ago via Editor). Editing an already reviewed source string does not add a new review event.
Progress and stats
Editor
In the source language, language stats show how many strings are reviewed and unreviewed.
Languages page
The source language also shows % reviewed.
Updating a resource in Transifex
When you update a resource from the UI:
Source strings whose text did not change keep their reviewed status.
Source strings whose text changed become unreviewed and need to be reviewed again.
