Transifex AI Context & Settings

Transifex AI leverages key contextual factors to ensure translations are tailored to your project's and audience's specific needs, improving overall quality and consistency. This guide covers all available context settings and how to configure them.

Glossary Terms

Transifex AI intelligently incorporates your project's glossary terms into the translation process. Rather than injecting glossary terms directly, Transifex AI suggests translations that preserve the intended meaning. This ensures the translation flows naturally, even when a direct match to the glossary term isn't suitable.

💡Tip: Ensure your project is linked to a Glossary to help Transifex AI correctly translate your organization's key terms and brand-specific terminology.


Translation Memory

Transifex AI references your Translation Memory (TM) for improved accuracy and consistency, using matches with high similarity as reference points. This ensures that previously approved translations are used effectively to maintain consistency across your projects while producing more precise translations.

String instructions and Developer notes

You can further improve the quality of Transifex AI by allowing it to reference existing Instructions and Developer Notes. By using the same guidance you provide to human translators, the AI can better understand the nuances and specific requirements of your content.

How to enable

Usage of Instructions and Developer notes is deactivated by default. To enable it:

  1. Navigate to Organization Settings.

  2. Select AI Settings and go to the General tab.

  3. Click the Edit (pencil) icon to modify your preferences.

  4. Toggle the option to include Instructions and/or Developer Notes as additional context.

  5. Save your changes.

📝Note: Sharing instructions and developer notes with Transifex AI is opt-in. The option is disabled by default.


Context Field

Transifex AI leverages context from your source files to provide more accurate and relevant translations. When context is available, the AI can better understand the intent behind a string, reducing ambiguity and improving quality.

The AI utilizes the context field from several supported formats (.json, .po, .xliff, .xlsx, .ts, etc.)

How to enable

Usage of Instructions and Developer notes is deactivated by default. To enable it:

  1. Navigate to Organization Settings.

  2. Select AI Settings and go to the General tab.

  3. Click the Edit (pencil) icon to modify your preferences.

  4. You can selectively enable one, some, or all file types to make use of the context field by checking the box next to them

  5. Save your changes.

Industry and target audience

While Transifex automatically identifies your industry and target audience based on your content, we understand that you may need to adjust this context to better align with your brand's voice and specific needs.

You can modify both at any time by navigating to Settings > AI Settings > General > Company profile. This allows you to fine-tune the AI's translations and ensure they perfectly fit your requirements.


AI Style Guides

AI Style Guides provide essential context that ensures Transifex AI adheres to your brand’s formality standards, tone of voice, and specific styling conventions. By using concise, structured instructions, these guides offer greater control over your localization output and ensure more predictable, high-quality translations.

Unlike general instructions, these guides are purpose-built for AI interpretation. They promote clarity and allow you to make incremental updates to your brand voice. Once a style guide is configured, it can be assigned to multiple projects, making it easy to maintain a consistent voice across your entire organization.

Creating an AI style guide.

📝 Note: Any user can view a style guide, but only Organization Admins can create or edit one.

To manage your style guides, navigate to Organization Settings, click AI Settings, and select the Style Guides tab. From here, you can view, edit, or delete existing guides, or click Add AI Style Guide to create a new one.

In the configuration form, you will define three main components:

  1. Name: A unique identifier for the style guide.

  2. Default Rules: General instructions that apply to all languages.

  3. Language-specific Rules: Custom overrides to fine-tune AI behavior for specific locales.

Configuring Default Rules

Default rules establish the baseline for your translations. Under the Default Rules tab, you can customize the following:

  • Formality and Gender Representation: Select from predefined options to set the standard for how the AI addresses your audience and handles gendered language.

  • Capitalization: Define the preferred capitalization strategy. It ensures consistent formatting across all responses, preventing the AI from switching between different styles mid-conversation. Switch from target language rules to mirroring the source or set a custom rule.

💡Tip: Choosing one of the first two options for Capitalization will overrule any custom instruction you might have set.

  • Tone of Voice: Provide a brief, free-text description of your brand’s voice. Your instructions should be concise and reflect the specific nature of your projects (e.g., "Professional yet accessible and friendly").

  • Custom Instructions: You can add up to 20 custom instructions to further refine quality and consistency. Transifex provides suggested templates, but you can also write your own. To ensure the AI interprets these accurately and to prevent "hallucinations," each instruction is limited to 200 characters.

💡Tip: While default rules apply globally, you can override them for specific languages if a different tone or formality level is required for a particular region.

Once you have defined your rules, click Save. You can then return to the main Style Guides area to assign your new guide to the relevant projects.

Language-specific rules

While default rules provide a global foundation, you can fine-tune AI behavior for individual locales using language-specific rules. These instructions take precedence over the default rule set when a conflict is detected.

Configuring Localized Rules

  1. Within the Style Guide editor, click the "+ Language-specific rules" button and select your target language.

  2. A new tab will appear for that language. For your reference, the values currently set in the "Default rules" tab will be visible.

  3. Define the Formality, Gender representation, Capitalization, Tone of voice, and Custom instructions following the same requirements as the default set:

    • Maximum of 20 custom instructions.

    • 200-character limit per instruction.

These constraints ensure the AI remains focused and reduces the risk of errors. Once you have finished your adjustments, click Save.

Assigning style guides to projects

Once you have saved your style guide, you can assign it to specific projects. A style guide may be associated with multiple projects, but each project may be associated with only one style guide.

In order to assign or withdraw your style guide from projects:

  1. Navigate to your style guides in the AI settings of your organization

  2. Select the desired style guide in the main area. You can see the list of projects already assigned to this style guide.

Navigate to “Assign to a project” and select the desired projects for the style guide.

Deleting language-specific rules

If you no longer need unique instructions for a specific locale, you can delete them by following the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the language to be deleted

  2. At the bottom of the page, click on “Delete rule for <selected language>”. The system will ask you to confirm the deletion.


Managing Transifex AI access for your Translators and Reviewers

You can control whether Translators and Reviewers have access to Transifex AI features within your organization. This allows you to manage your AI usage and define the workflow for your localization team.

How to Enable or Disable AI Access

Access is managed at the organization level through your settings:

  1. Navigate to Organization Settings.

  2. Click on AI Settings in the left-hand sidebar.

  3. Locate the toggle for Translator and Reviewer Access.

  4. Switch the toggle to your preferred setting:

    • Enabled: Translators and Reviewers can use Transifex AI.

    • Disabled: AI features will be disabled for these specific roles.

📝Note: Changes to these settings apply globally across all projects within your organization.
